earlier pens

Well, I've plunged into the Abyss and gotten started with woodturning. It all started in the spring of 2006, when I got a little mini-lathe. Before long, I'd found a bigger lathe for sale locally that fit the budget. Since then, I've been turning pens and bowls, just starting to learn the craft.

Here are a few of the pens I've made, in no particular order. This page is still being developed, but I wanted to just toss these up here real quick for folks to get a sneak peek at what's to come. Until I create a real photo gallery page, I'll add new pictures to the top of the list, so feel free to check back from time to time to see what's new.

Enough babbling; here are the results.

This is a dyed box elder burl, in the "Comfort" style with satin finish hardware.

This is another dyed box elder burl pen, in the "Perfect Fit" style with chrome hardware.

Here's a birdseye maple pen in a "Round Top European" style, with black titanium hardware.

Here is some curly eucalyptus wood, in a gold titanium "Comfort" style.

This is a curly koa "Flat Top American" pen with gold titanium hardware. I made the pen as a gift. The curly maple box was purchased from and laser engraved by my friend Pete at www.laserimagearts.com. He also makes impressive pens, and you can see them at www.woodpenman.com.

OK, not all my pens are made of wood. There is a plethora of styles of acrylic pen material available, and it makes a very handsome pen. This is some type of swirly gold acrylic... and another gold titanium Flat Top American style.

Here's another acrylic pen. This one's the "Comfort" style in gold titanium hardware.

And another acrylic pen, this time it's a pearlescent/metallic green, black and gray, in the "Streamline" pattern with black titanium parts.

This pen is made of leopardwood, a fairly rare South American wood with a unique grain pattern. Again, the hardware is gold titanium in the Flat Top American style.

And some more acrylic...this time in a pearlescent teal color. And another gold titanium Flat Top American hardware set.

As I mentioned at the top of the page, this is just the first effort to display some of my lathe work. I intend to refine the whole "photo gallery" experience with this site, but I have to drag myself out of the shop and put in some hours on the computer first. (And the shop is fun...the computer's work.)

Stay tuned!
